According to the data, the price of copper has soared:

On January 13, 2023, on the London Metal Exchange (LME), copper prices rose 1.1% to $9013.50, rising for the fifth consecutive trading day. Copper prices are back above $9,000 a tonne for the first time since June last year.

Analysts say interest rates are a factor to consider. "If the Fed wraps up raising rates this quarter, the dollar outlook could start to weaken in 2023, which would provide additional support for copper."

Prices of metals such as copper have risen about 8 percent so far this year, buoyed by a weaker dollar. The dollar has fallen to its lowest level since the summer of 2022, making dollar-denominated metals more affordable for buyers holding other currencies.

Copper prices have fallen sharply in mid-2022 as the global economy slows, interest rates rise and the dollar strengthens.

In the past year, under the background of persistent inflationary pressure and impending recession, the prices of other metals such as gold and silver have also performed strongly, rising by about 3.05% and 2.93% respectively, while the three major U.S. benchmark stock indexes have all declined, and the stock market has suffered from the 2008 Worst year since.
